Meet the “Unquilt” – one of Yunus /Royale Linens’ new weaving innovations

New York – Royale Linens, a division of Yunus Textile Mills, is in the market with a slew of techniques designed to keep pricing in check.

With cotton prices bouncing around and a huge shortfall in the global cotton supply looming next year, the company put its energies into making a big statement with sustainable poly – in top of bed, in sheets and even in flannel.

Its showcase ensemble at the front of the showroom is a fashion bedding ensemble made from a micro poly with a satin hand and a vivid pattern that looks like a digital print. The bed is layered with a pair of CVC jacquards on a Micro Tencel base.

“It brings a luxurious look. We call it “the magic fabric,’” said Jennifer Polikoff, design director at Royale Linens.

Yunus has created several intricate designs using the Unquilt weaving technique.

The new Unquilt construction is not, technically speaking, a quilt. It is a weaving technique using a CVC shell that constrains bits of poly yarn in something akin to tufts. Once washed after weaving, the small chambers puff out to provide quilt-like dimension to the piece. The Unquilt is available in a variety of intricate designs. Royale is also showing a range of actual quilts in solids and prints.

The recycled poly used in Royale Linens’ Eco Flannel line is fully traceable.

Also new to the line-up is Eco Flannel, which is made from 100% traceable, recycled polyester. The poly lends itself to richly colored printing. Additional attributes include moisture wicking and shrink resistance.

“What sets us apart is our investments in R&D,” said Brain Rogers, president – North America. “We’re doing sustainability in a big way, but keeping price in mind.”

By next year, 30% of the energy powering Yunus’ factories in Pakistan will be provided by solar power. The manufacturer is also offsetting its carbon footprint with an investment in a windmill project. By the end of 2023, Yunus will be 70% carbon neutral.
